Inspiring Author Workshops for Curious Young Writers
There’s no better way to inspire children to create their own stories than providing them the opportunity to personally interact with a published author. How are books created? How do stories grow from ideas into stories and then into books? What are the various forms of writing?
Tailor make your author visit, choosing from a range of topics, including:
- Story Creation Workshop – a fun collaborative workshop that encourages younger students to create a story together. Explore the building blocks of story – setting, character, story problems and resolution.
- How to Grow a Story – Where do ideas come from? How can you tell if your idea has enough in it to become a fully fledged story? How can you help your story idea grow? Where do authors get their ideas? How do authors stay motivated to write all the way to ‘The End’?
- How are Books Made? – Find out the process of book creation. Investigate the steps from story idea and first draft to polished story and published book. Find out different roles in the publishing industry, and the difference between traditional publishing and self-publishing.
- Creating Colourful Characters – go deeper with your characters. Learn how to make them engaging, interesting and the driving force of your narrative.
- Sorting Out Structure – step back and look at the bigger picture of story shape and narrative arc. Consider the order your story is told in. Do the stakes get higher as the narrative progresses?
- Exploring Self-editing – an engaging workshop that includes collaborative story creation and editing, delivering skills that can be applied to future writing projects.
